All Quiet On The Weston Seafront

Documentary

Twenty years ago youths on one of Britain's

worst council estates formed one of England's

most notorious gangs. For over five years, they

terrorized Weston-Super-Mare: no Bank

Holiday weekend passed without a battle.

“Today they are adults-but are they grown up”

The photographer film maker John Gilliam, who

photographed their exploits twenty years

ago tracks them down. Gilliam’s documentary

mixes real-life testimony, still photographs and

original news footage to give a window on the

world. The camera allows the participants to

look back on the days of their youth, which

reveals a telling contradiction between

optimism and nostalgia as these ordinary

males tell and re-tell their stories.

This fascinating piece of work takes us back in

time and serves up a slice of life that is no

more. It summons up in all of us a feeling of

reflection on adolescence and the process of

growing up.
